But You, Lord, are on high forevermore.
For behold, Your enemies, O Lord, For behold, Your enemies shall perish; All the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.” Psalm 92:8-9
There is a lot of talk about spiritual warfare these days, enough to make some people afraid. There is so much talk about hellish creatures in fact that we forget that Jesus has already won the battle.
Sabbath reminds us that God has won. That He is on the throne. That He prevails over the forces of darkness and sin. “Hallelujah!”, Sabbath declares, “Jesus has won the victory!”
Paul the Apostle said in this way,
“Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”
The picture he paints is one of a Conquering King that parades the defeated army, naked and ashamed, through the streets of the conquered land. With great pomp and celebration, the Conquering King shows the people of the land that they are no longer to fear the oppressing army. All of the people are in the streets to witness the public humiliation of the enemy. It is a grand day for the liberated people! It is a day when Rest returns to the land.
And that is what we do on the Sabbath. With joy and celebration we witness our conquering King parade the disposed ruler of this world before us. He is a defeated foe, a beaten and enslaved nag of a being. There is no longer any reason to fear for our King reigns!
So don’t miss your cue when the King comes by. Don’t be found hiding from the defeated enemy or distracted from the celebration. Sabbath is the reminder that Jesus has indeed won the victory!
Rise up and rejoice! The King of the Sabbath reigns!
